ABOUT

Hi, I'm Saira

Hi! I’m Saira (rhymes with ‘Tyra’). Welcome to my little corner of the world! My name translates to ‘wanderer,’ and I like to dabble and experiment with a variety of art forms here at the studio. Hence why I created The Cosmic Wanderer Collective in 2019.

In Spring 2024 we launched a rebrand from The Cosmic Wanderer Collective to SAIRA Studios to better encompass fresh new offerings. These days, SAIRA Studios acts as the retail arm of SAIRA Creative, a consulting and public art firm that helps people feel more connected to each other and their neighborhoods. Here at the studio, we offer hair shimmers, hand made small batch jewelry, and hand painted artwork.

I am an artist who loves helping awesome people feel more joyful, expressive, and connected. And aren’t joy, self-expression and connection all things everyone can get behind?

How We Have Grown

We started in 2019 as a mobile business offering henna and hair shimmers around Buffalo and beyond. I learned the art of henna (or ‘mehndi’ in the Indian language), when I was a young child. It was customary to apply it for weddings and cultural ceremonies.

I even went to India in 2018 to learn the craft. When I returned to the U.S., I decided the inner artist must come forward and thus, The Cosmic Wanderer was born. Immediately upon my return, I held my first ever pop up in the states, in a small Eastern Oregon town I’d once lived in. A friend who offers hair shimmers there, suggested I add that to my repertoire and bring the shimmers to Buffalo, where I intended to land after several years away.

During the early pandemic months of 2020, another element was incorporated into the business – handmade, small batch jewelry, made from repurposed drum cymbals. Taking a break from seeing clients provided some extra time for experimentation. With a hubby who is a drummer, we began playing with his broken and cracked drum cymbals which held too much connection to simply toss away. We found a way to give these instruments new life. These items are all one-of-a-kind, and collections are released only twice a year, depending on time and materials available.

In 2021, we opened up our first brick and mortar location at the historic Niagara Frontier Food Terminal. Here, we expanded into an art studio where we specialize in painting projects and eventually grew into doing more community-based art projects and murals. Though henna is no longer something we offer through our studio repertoire, you will find the inspiration from this craft in all our current art works.
